Katsuko is pretty much Panty if you ask me LOL
Katsumi is a far cuter name. “Ko” is for old people.
But Katsuya is a unisex name anyway. >.>
Ko isn’t for old people. It’s normally added on the end of female names. (Kimiko, Ritsuko, Keiko, etc.)
Ya is commonly on boy names. (Touya, Takuya, etc.) Katsuya is not gender-neutral, it is a ridiculously common boy’s name. (think John.)
It is also a bit rude to suggest alternate naming when the name itself wasn’t really in question. Input is nice, but when it comes unwarranted can be rude. Reblogging to promote art is good, but ignoring any commentary on the art itself is a bit rude, and personal opinions on female name alternates should be something kept to one’s own tumblr, not on someone’s art.
I doubt it was intentional, so I thought I would pipe up. :D
“You look cuter with glasses, you know.” Katsuko grins widely, gently lifting the glasses from Setoko’s nose, “Maybe those cute wire-rimmed kind. These make you look stuffy.”
“These are more practical.” Setoko objects, a smile playing on her lips, “And you’d be happier if I didn’t have anything on, including glasses, you minx.”
“True.”
Well, I know for a fact that “Ko is for old people”. I have had Japanese teachers tell me this, Japanese students tell me this, friends who have gone to Japan tell me this- I am going to take it as fact. It is an older name ending. Think “Jean” or “Abigail” or “Thelma”- I don’t know many young girls with these names. Not to say they don’t exist anymore among the young population, but just not common anymore. “Mi” or “Ki” is considered a cuter way to end a name.
Katsuya is unisex. Though it is preferred for males to have, it is still unisex. Think “Alex”. When you think of Alex, you think of a guy- but it is also a girl’s name too.
- It wasn’t intentional. This is very cute art Awakeningcity! :D I just… wanted to be helpful.
And on a completely separate note, Seto, (though not the kanji typically used) can also be unisex.
Actually, I got a small number of reviews mentioning how weird it was for them- they have classmates (girls not guys) with that name. oAo
